Zpacks was founded in 2004 when Joe Valesko, unable to find lightweight gear that met his needs for an Appalachian Trail thru-hike, sat down at a sewing machine in his apartment and began designing his own. After testing and refining his gear on the trail, the positive response from fellow hikers inspired him to start selling his designs online. That grassroots beginning grew into a company built around the obsession of balancing weight and function for human-powered adventurers. Today, Zpacks employs a team of experienced adventurers with tens of thousands of collective miles, designing and sewing a premier collection of ultralight gear at their facility in West Melbourne, FL.
